The First Crush...

The thirteen year old little Simi was in a deep thought. Being a girl from a strict convent school, the sight of boys nearby the school campus was a luxury for them. The guys from her neighbourhood were either too old for her, or her juniors. She, like many of her friends, lived in the hope that the rumour, that had been spread some ten years ago, that her school would soon turn co-educational, would come true soon. Her friends, who were already 'madly in crush' with someone or the other, used to excitedly discuss their stories, and that would make Simi feel more miserable. They had even suggested Simi to have an Orkut account, but she didn't have the audacity to escape her parents' middle-class strictness. Her desktop was in the living room and it was impossible for her to do anything that wasn't related to her academics, without getting noticed.

"My life is such a mess....", Simi sighed, neither knowing the meaning of life, nor mess. Afterall, she was already thirteen, and though she was a regular class topper who has always been the 'teacher's pet', she hadn't yet found her prince charming....

"Simi beta, are you ready?"

"Yes papa..coming", Simi replied, adjusting her yellow-flower hairband that matched with her yellow frock.

It was going to be her first day at her english tution. Though she was nervous that it would be her first co-educational class and there would be students from all schools, her friends were over excited. Afterall, Simi would finally meet her 'Mr. Right'. One of them had even predicted that he would be a cute guy, who would 'love her forever'.

"And, how would I know?", Simi had asked naively.

"God would send you a signal Simi, you will just know." The matter-of-factly answer had left Simi awestruck. She couldn't help but 'respect' her 'more experienced than her' mentors. She felt awkwardly happy, realising that she would soon no longer be the odd one out among her friends.

"Here you go, beta. I will come to pick you up soon after your class ends. Be attentive, and study well." Her father's voice broke her train of thoughts.

Simi nodded, as she got down the car and walked up to the waiting area. The class was about to begin after ten minutes and people were casually frolicking among themselves. It was then, when she saw him....

Tall, slim and with spects, that guy gossiping with his friend looked cute enough, just as her friend had predicted. But, Simi was confused now. She hadn't yet received any 'signal from God'. So, was he the one? Or....

Simi tried to recall what her friends had said, mentally ticking off the checklist.

"Hey Rahul, lets go in..the class is about to begin", someone called that cute guy, who, before going inside, happened to glance at Simi. Though she was quick enough to look away, she could feel her heart skip a beat.

She had mentally taken a note of his name.

Half an hour into the class, and Simi found herself checking on him from the corner of her eye. He was busy playing with his pencil box, as the teacher went on lecturing.

"Not my type..", Simi sighed. "How could someone play in the class while the teacher is present??", she sulked.

Just as she was about to be sure that she would 'die single' and went on to concentrate on her notes, she happened to notice his friend, sitting right next to him. She blushed, as she realised that she had finally received 'the signal' from God which her 'experienced' friends had told her about...

There was an air of happiness in among the seventh standard kids. Simi had, finally, found her 'Mr. Right' and the girls couldn't stop being more excited than herself. Simi 'blushed', as they congratulated her. She was flooded with wishes for a 'happy life with him'.

"Did you speak to him??", someone asked.

"No..not yet", came the shy reply.

"What is his name??"

"No idea..all I know is that, he was sitting next to someone named Rahul. Rahul was busy playing in the class, but he was listening to whatever was being taught.."

"Hmmm..which school??"

"I don't know.."

"Come on Simi, you are such an idiot. You didn't listen to a single thing that I had told you. How are you even going to date him if you keep on being this naive?? You should have atleast tried to know his name and school, if not anything", her friend literally scolded.

"But..I seriously feel he is the one, whom 'God has sent for me'...like you had told.."

"And why do you feel so?"

" You know, he was wearing a 'Tom and Jerry' t-shirt.."

"So??"

"Tom and Jerry is my favourite TV show..", Simi replied, blushing as red as a beetroot....
